Executive Summary

On June 05, 2017, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain severed ties with Doha, accusing the Qatari government of promoting instability in the region. At the core of the latest diplomatic crisis are incendiary comments purportedly made by Qatar's Emir HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani at a Qatari military graduation ceremony on May 23, 2017[1]. This is the second such stand off post the 2014 diplomatic crisis that ensued when the Brotherhood government of Mohamed Morsi in Egypt fell in 2013 and Abdel Fatteh al-Sisi came to power, Riyadh welcome the development; whereas Qatar appeared resistant to it.
